Trauma changes the brain

Heal beyond talk therapy

You’ve tried to make sense of it — talked it through, journaled, analyzed, and yet your body still feels anxious, frozen or stuck in patterns you can’t explain. Sometimes pain lives in places words can’t reach. I offer EMDR and somatic therapy for people who feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or like they’ve tried everything and still don’t feel like themselves. These bottom-up approaches start with the body, where trauma lives, to support lasting change, so you can feel safe, present, and fully alive again.

Focus Areas

How I help

  • Or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing helps your brain process stuck memories and emotional pain, so past experiences don’t keep triggering you in the present. Learn more about EMDR.

  • Works with your body and nervous system to calm stress responses like anxiety, shutdown, or feeling on edge.

  • Helps you understand and work with different parts of yourself — like the anxious part or the shut-down part — so you feel more balanced and whole.

  • Looks at how early relationships shaped how you connect with others now — and helps build new, healthier ways of relating.

  • Guides toward acceptance vs. fighting your thoughts and feelings, and take action based on your values — even when things feel hard.

Hi I’m Michelle

PYSCHOTHERAPIST | MA, LMHCA

Being a human is hard and we’re not meant to do it alone. I am a relational therapist, meaning I believe healing happens in connection and relationships. I show up as a real person in the room with you, not just a “blank slate” therapist, because I believe the human connection we build is part of what makes healing possible. I’m committed to creating a space where you feel seen, safe, and supported, and I’ll meet you where you are. I am trained in EMDR, a powerful tool that heals the root vs. just the symptoms. My own journey through trauma, identity, and healing led me to this work. Being half Korean has deeply influenced how I understand the complexity of identity — and the feeling of being “in between.” I am passionate about psychology, social justice, and creating spaces where healing can ripple into communities. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that growth is always possible. It would be my honor to walk beside you on your healing journey. Learn more about me.

what is EMDR?

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a therapeutic approach designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories. It is based on the premise that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much like the body heals from physical injury.

During EMDR therapy, a trained therapist helps clients process distressing memories by using bilateral stimulation, which often involves eye movements. This method allows individuals to reprocess traumatic experiences, reducing their emotional charge and helping.

The past affects the present even without being aware of it.
— Francine Shapiro, EMDR Founder
